Time Zone

Barcelona time is in the Central European Time Zone (CET). CET is 5 hours ahead of US Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT).

Travel Documents

Visitors must present passports with two pages available for the entry stamp.  All passports must be valid for at least three months past your departure date from Barcelona (six months is recommended).  U.S. passport holders do not require a visa for stays less than 90 days in Barcelona.

Personal Identification

It is required by Spanish law that photographic identification be carried with you at all times. This may be a passport, driving license or national identity card. With a tightening of security in the city, it is highly recommended you always carry a photocopy of your passport should you be asked for this.

Currency

The currency used in Barcelona is the Euro (€).  Money changing services and ATMs are readily available at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, most shopping centers and hotels.  For current exchange rates, please click here.

Electricity

The electric current is 220 volts throughout Spain with 2 pin wall sockets.  This differs from the standard U.S. electrical plugs, so you may want to bring an adapter.

Cellular Services

Please check with your individual provider for your cell phone plan’s roaming coverage.  Please note, international roaming fees can be quite costly, so we highly recommend researching the fees in advance!  Barcelona’s international dialing code is +(34).

Packing Tips

Do not pack any valuable items in luggage you plan to check.  Your photo ID, travel documents, tickets, cash, jewelry, medications, etc. should always be kept with you in a carry-on bag.  Please do not pack any nail files, pocket-knives, other sharp objects or large liquids in your carry-on bags.  The hotel rooms include a hairdryer and in-room safe.  Cots and compact cribs are available upon request.

Weather

In April, Barcelona experiences warm days with sunny, clear skies. The average daytime temperatures are around 58°F (that is about 15°C) whereas the average minimum temperatures drop down to 53°F (that is about 11°C).  Click here for current weather in Barcelona.
