Philadelphia
Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania, was founded in 1682 by William Penn with the purpose to serve as the Pennsylvania Colony’s capital. Philadelphia has played an instrumental role in American history, functioning as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers during the American Revolution. In this city, the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 as well as the Constitution in 1787. Philadelphia also served as temporary U.S. capital while Washington, D.C. was under construction. In the modern world, Philadelphia is an educational and economical hub. Known for its arts, culture and rich history, Philadelphia has more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other American city. With 67 National Historic Landmarks, a growing sports industry and classic cuisine, Philadelphia has something to offer for everyone.
